Shepherd - Trey The Cuddler - Large - Adult - Male - Dog
bob tail
This adorable dog came to us from a high kill shelter with his siblings as a puppy. He was adopted almost a year ago, but the family's situation changed and they could no longer keep him. Here is what we know about Trey:
* Leash Manners - Trey is a big dog, 70lbs and he gets excited to walk so you just have to be assertive with him. He listens very well so if he is pulling you tell him NO. He is using a regular collar.
* Crate/House Training - He is completely house trained. He is crate trained and he'll go right in it. But honestly, I have been keeping him out of it with ZERO issues. He is not destructive in the least. He sleeps by my bedside every night without a peep.
* Socialization - Great with everyone. I have had several people over and he is sweet to all. He is great with my dog Maurice. They play hard and Mo can get jealous and Trey back right down. He has ran after my cat, but I don't see any aggression in it. Just liking the chase. When I tell him 'No' he stops!
* Energy Level and Exercise - Trey has a moderate energy level. I had heard he was HIGH energy, I don't agree. He is no different from any other 1.5 year old dog. He plays all day with Mo and that tires him out.
* Daily Structure and Schedule - I feed them twice a day, before I go to work at about 7:00 AM and then when I get home around 5:00 PM. He is eating Pedigree. Healthy appetite. We go to sleep around 11:00 and he wakes up with me. He has already gotten my routine.
* Temperament - He adapted within hours to my house. He knew where to go to go outside. He is submissive. He plays very well but if it starts to get a little out of hand he typically is the one to back down.
* Obedience Training - He is pretty obedient and knows Sit, No, Down or Cage. He grew up being allowed on the furniture, but if you tell him ?down? he will get right down. He is learning Stay.
* Behaviors - He does not like getting his nails cut at all, and we can only get them cut with much difficulty, even when we take him to do it professionally. He is a slight jumper but only really if you engage him. I have seen him digging a bit in the yard but it's very minor.
* Personality Quirks - This dog is very sweet and gentle for his size. I am surprised at how well behaved he is for his age. He is not a big barker but I can see him as a great watch dog. There is always an amount of stress getting a new dog accustomed to my routine and house. This has by far been the easiest transition. He really is a GREAT dog.
* Ideal Home - Trey needs a fun and loving family who will play and love on him a lot, with a strong leader I would recommended a family that can give him time and love. He loves affection. If they have another dog, that could be great too. There really hasn't been a situation I can see that is an issue. Whatever family chooses him, you will not be disappointed!
***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April xxxx, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Sheph
